Austria-based company FACC has been working on three-year research project named SPIRIT, in the area of industrial inspection robots, primarily aimed to autonomously optimize the inspection process that efficiently activate framework and performance. The goal of the project is to replace the time-consuming and highly skilled task of robot programming, with simply configuring the inspection task. Generally, when a new component or a complicated shape is being inspected, the significant problem with inspection robot is that it has to arrange the expected motion path, in a way that it would possibly inspect the whole surface of the component. Apparently, this process is time consuming and resource intensive, which overall declines the performance rate and efficiency of the inspection. Therefore, focusing on elaborating the industrialized innovative solution, FACC design software or framework that is able to switch between different inspection technologies and parts types quickly and easily. The inspection robot will only need CAD model of the component to avoid collisions or unwanted impact under the inspection. Additionally, the innovative robot will be able to optimize the inspection process in real-time while it is running. FACC further denotes that under the case of unknown deformations, that needs to be adjusted, the robot would perform spontaneously to achieve its optimization of the inspection. The implementation of innovative technology is expected to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection.
