Korean grocery store E-Market has presented a clever packaging concept designed to reduce the number of bananas which are wasted by consumers once purchased, by varying bananas in their level of ripeness. This idea was derived by the thought that the consumer will have a banana of optimal ripeness ready every day, and also to decrease the instances that over-ripened bananas end up in the trash. The bananas in the pack, is arranged from green and unripe to completely ripe banana. However, some people criticized that in terms of reducing the food waste, this idea would definitely work, but it’s idea of packing material didn’t fully consider about the sustainable solution to the scourge of plastic pollution, that our global community face. This problem stays unsolved, since a vital role of food packaging is to reduce food waste by extending shelf-life by preserving the processing benefits of food and also protecting the product from external influences. Therefore, we need to expect further improvement and collaboration of food packing industry, in order to provide a suitable sustainable solution to reduce food waste.
